Times are tough and the economy is enabling all of us to refocus our efforts on our futures. Many people are starting a first career, while others are working to apply their skill sets in a different career. The operative word in these sentences is “career,” not job.

The admissions process in post secondary education is more than just submitting an application and waiting for either an approval or denial letter in the mail. The role of admissions is to provide clarity for students on what to expect from the school, and in turn, what the school expects from the student

Microsoft Corporation has always had to deal with problems with malware or bots that install on a user’s computer. They have recently cracked down on the malware giant Waledac. (see Microsoft blog for further detail .) Microsoft is a founding member of the Botnet Task Force, a public-private partnership to join industry and government in the fight against bots. This group has “executed a major botnet takedown of Waledac, a large and well-known “spambot,”” according to the Microsoft Blog Post. The Wall Street Journal has a story on the case (WSJ subscription required).

Today we find ourselves in a time of economic instability and drastic change. Some are seeking education to begin a new career. Others are seeking alternative applications for their skill sets, while everyone is making due with less. Regardless, staying positive and putting together strategies to succeed is important to all of us. At Beckfield College, we actually teach a course on this subject to help people prepare for their new futures, but the philosophies can be applicable for anyone.
