Prior to 200 years ago, information was carried in books or basic writings. Books were more of a rare commodity than an everyday item. The bestselling and most distributed book of all time is the Holy Bible which is what most people kept if they had any book at all.

With today’s usage of many wireless devices I have often wondered what the overall effect would be to the human population. With cordless and wireless technologies, we are putting these devices right in or around our ears. Technology is a wonderful gift to mankind but in the words of Ian Malcolm from the first Jurassic Park movie “just because they could doesn’t mean that they should.”  The idea that we can create a technology does not mean that we would necessarily have to engage it into the public as fast as possible.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook 2010-2011 Edition, projected employment within the field of Criminal Justice is expected to grow through 2018. Criminal justice employment opportunities are most favorable to candidates that possess certain requirements that are expected for the position. A well-constructed resume offers prospective employers a chance to learn who the candidate is and what that candidate has to offer. It is important to create a resume that can showcase attributes which the employer is specifically looking for in order to fill the position and ensure employment over other candidates.

In 1967, when the Beatles released this tune, little did they know that 79 million Americans would be turning 64 in the years 2010 to 2030.  When this song hit the airwaves, the Baby Boom had ended.  After World War II (1945), servicemen returned home and started families. Between the years 1946 and 1964, more babies were born in the United States than in any other recorded period of time. History has called it the Baby Boom.  

In the free market of Internet browsers, many people are out chirping about which browser is best. First let’s define a browser. A browser is an application program that provides a way to look at and interact with all the information on the World Wide Web. The word "browser" seems to have originated prior to the Web as a generic term for user interfaces that let you browse (navigate through and read) text files online. So let’s take a look at some questions concerning the “best”. How do we judge them?

I believe a rigorous higher education curriculum must be accompanied by professional expectations that allow for successful professionals to routinely go above and beyond the call of duty.   As Dean of the Criminal Justice Department at Beckfield College, I have witnessed the field of criminal justice grow in function while continuing to demand increased professionalism from employees. My approach to meeting this need is to provide our students with rigorous academics, state-of-the-art equipment for training, and a focus on the intangible elements of leadership, integrity and discipline.  I demand this of myself, my faculty and my students.  Why shouldn’t we demand more of our students than just straight A’s?

In my current profession as the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Beckfield College in Greater Cincinnati, I have the privilege to also serve as the College’s VA Certifying Official. In this capacity, I help guide fellow veterans with their utilization of the educational benefits available to veterans from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). 

I have several IT friends who, over the years, have battled with various operating systems. Their challenges generally led to Microsoft alternatives. In most cases, I understand their perspectives on Industry Standards versus created corporate standards that Microsoft tends to “re-develop.” Their view reflects the myopic way Microsoft does business. The consensus for most IT personnel is that the operator should have more control over their system than is typically provided by Microsoft.
