(59PJYKJBX5C4) Not many people can say they love what they do for a living, let alone list specific reasons why. For me, it’s easy these days. I help people set a course to work toward a new future! I am honored to be working as a Nursing Admissions Coordinator at Beckfield College.
After 20 years of working in hospital-based healthcare, I decided to make a change and help people in a different way. Transitioning from working in healthcare to helping others enter the healthcare field has been a joy.
The only thing better than helping people directly is showing them how to help themselves. It’s exciting and satisfying to meet with potential nursing students and
guide them through the qualification and acceptance processes and then help them adjust during the first weeks of nursing classes at Beckfield College.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This Chinese Proverb really speaks to changing lives, something I believe those of us in college admissions do for many people.
As a nursing admissions representative, my job is to listen to individuals talk about their dreams, their challenges, and their goals for the future. With this information in hand, I present options to reach those aspirations through education. I have the privilege of witnessing people make a meaningful, permanent change that not only affects that person but also family and friends. Seeing people move through their despair while struggling to make ends meet, then on to hope through education and mission driven hard work and then arrive successfully at graduation and the start of a new career is what makes my job so fulfilling. There is a true sense of satisfaction when you can leave your office at the end of the day knowing that you helped make a difference in someone’s life
Nursing school is tough, there’s no doubt about that. Ask any practicing nurse and they will tell you it was one of the toughest things they ever accomplished…….getting through nursing school and passing their State Licensure Exam. Was it worth it? I think you will hear a strong “yes” from every nurse asked. Their lives were changed for the better because they made it through the rigorous challenges of nursing school. They had to sacrifice and work very hard to become a healthcare professional. They all decided at some point that they were going to change their lives through education, and for some, I got to play a role in their journey. How lucky I am to work in nursing admissions at Beckfield College!!!
