Beckfield College celebrates growth of nursing programs and alumni numbers

Florence, KY (March 25, 2010) Nursing students at Beckfield College celebrated a milestone this past weekend as they participated in a long standing tradition, the pinning ceremony. With long study hours, rigorous coursework and intense clinical training in the rear view mirror, 41 men and women celebrated their academic achievements at Lakeside Christian Church amidst a crowd of more than 600 family members, friends, and Beckfield College faculty and staff. After passing their national exam, they will proudly wear the title of Registered Nurse (RN).

In addition to this graduation, the College celebrated its first class of Practical Nursing graduates, with nine women who finished their studies and will prepare to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) upon successful completion of their board test.

It’s no secret that even health care related jobs have diminished in demand and the local hospital mergers have impacted the need, but Beckfield’s reputation of intense training and job preparedness has provided these students a leg up. Upon graduation, nursing students take the NCLEX, a national board licensure examination that enables them to work in the field. Beckfield’s last nursing graduating class in September 2009 had a 93% pass rate taking the exam the first time and nearly 80% of them are already working. Only five students from that class remain in the process of interviewing, and with a 2009 job placement rate of nearly 95%, the future looks bright for both these students and the new March graduates.

“Beckfield College challenges you, and for those who step up and meet the challenge with hard work and perseverance, you are well prepared,” noted Doug Rice, March nursing graduate. “It’s all worth it.”

These students have endured a challenging curriculum and clinical work on site at medical facilities throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. With health care changing before our eyes, qualified nurses focused on compassion and care will be a part of whatever comes to fruition.

“There’s one thing that both sides of the health care debate can agree on – nothing is broken or will be changed without the passionate and highly trained care from nurses,” declared Jason Gregg, nursing faculty member.

Beckfield College’s belief in the professionalism of nursing runs deep. The College has added an RN-to-BSN (Bachelor of Nursing) program to their current programs which train RN and LPNs upon certification.

“We are focused on the profession of nursing here at Beckfield College,” explained Tim Curl, Dean of Nursing. “In the first term, we tell them honestly it will be the hardest thing they ever experienced. In the end, our nurses are well prepared for the field. Enhancing our academic offerings to these students is the natural next step for their careers in a growing field.”

Beckfield College is a career college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) that has, since 1984, been evolving to meet the educational needs of its learners while meeting the demands of the community and area businesses. The Nursing program began in late 2004, and the community’s increased need has been met head-on by the College.  Beckfield College expanded the facilities and added a Practical Nursing program to the complement the highly sought after Registered Nursing Program in January 2009. An RN to BSN program was added in 2010.  Instructors bring years of real-world, practical experience and education into the classrooms to enhance the students’ education. With its philosophy that “Success in College brings Success in Life,” Beckfield College celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2009.  For further information, visit www.beckfield.edu and follow Beckfield College on Facebook.
