Beckfield College Students Win Area Scholarships

Cincinnati, Ohio (September 28, 2011) – Four different Greater Cincinnati Beckfield College students recently received scholarships from two different organizations, the Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools (OACCS) and the Executive Women International (EWI) chapter.

Tammy Johnson, of Hamilton; Michelle Knox, of Cincinnati; and Terrah Price, of Okeana, were among 15 Ohioans awarded Workforce Tuition Scholarships by the Association (OACCS) through a competitive process. The grants assist individuals who plan on attending or who are currently attending a career college or school in Ohio. Beckfield College, located in Cincinnati, was one of the 12 participating institutions.

“Beckfield College is pleased to be a member of the OACCS and be selected as one of the twelve colleges in Ohio selected to participate in the inaugural year of this scholarship. I am very proud of these three exceptional students for being selected as recipients of this scholarship,” said Edward Rito, Campus Director at Beckfield’s Tri-County Cincinnati Campus.

OACCS created the scholarship program this year and distributed $15,500 for this academic term.   Students must use the funds for tuition, fees, and supplies directly related to the cost of the education and training. To maintain eligibility, students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better and a 90 percent attendance record.

“Ohio’s career colleges and schools are committed to putting higher education within reach of people who desire to improve their skills and employability in a changing economy,” said R. David Rankin, OACCS executive director.

Carly Bastin, a second year Business Administration student at Beckfield College’s Tri-County Cincinnati campus and Loveland resident, was awarded a scholarship from the Executive Women International Cincinnati Chapter.   This ASIST scholarship is open to adult students at transitional points in their lives.  Applicants may be single parents, individuals just entering the workforce or displaced workers.

“Beckfield College is proud of Ms. Bastin’s achievement.  She is a great example of someone who puts forth an exceptional effort and then is rewarded for all of her hard work and dedication in achieving her educational goals,” said Rito.

Local chapters of EWI partner with educational providers and social services agencies to identify potential ASIST candidates. Students first apply and compete at the local Chapter level. Chapter-level winners are submitted to the corporate level for the opportunity to be selected for one of twelve $2,500 scholarships.
