The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting is designed to prepare students for careers in physicians’ practices and ambulatory settings. Graduates fulfill integral, multifunctional administrative and clinical roles.

 

Clinical Skills Instruction:

 

·         Obtaining patient history

·         Vital signs

·         Assisting with patient examinations and procedures

·         Performing ECGs and other diagnostic testing

·         Laboratory testing

·         Preparing and administering medications

 

Administrative Skills Instruction:

 

·         Preparing and maintaining medical records

·         Scheduling and monitoring appointments

·         Scheduling hospital admissions and procedures

·         Submitting claims and monitoring reimbursements

·         Insurance precertification

 

Students in the last quarter of the program will be placed in an appropriate health care facility in order to apply the skills acquired in their collegiate coursework.  They are required to complete 180 hours of practical experience under direct supervision of qualified personnel at various health care facilities and the general supervision of instructors.  Graduates are eligible to sit for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examination.

 

This program has been approved by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, and the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.
