Beckfield College Instructor Valerie Simmons was honored with a Master Teacher Award in Recognition of an Outstanding Job Performed for Students from the Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools at their Annual Awards Meeting in Columbus, Ohio last month. Simmons is an Assistant Librarian and Writing Instructor at the Beckfield College’s Tri-County Cincinnati, Ohio Campus.

Florence, Kentucky (August 9, 2011) From every tragedy there is a phoenix that rises, bringing new life. Greater Cincinnati experienced the tragedy on April 8, 2011 when Pete Minor was struck and killed in a hit and run accident as he was changing his tire on the highway on his way to work. Minor will be forever be remembered as a tree is planted in his honor and the auditorium at Beckfield College where he worked will be named the “Pete Minor Memorial Auditorium” on August 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Happy and fulfilled college students excited about learning and being challenged are having a major impact on Beckfield College’s Tri-County Campus in Springdale, Ohio. Since the College opened its doors in Ohio in 2009, the campus has grown from 15 students to more than 400 students. The campus growth is directly attributed to student satisfaction, as more than 20% of the growth represents referrals of family and friends from current students.

Florence, Kentucky (May 6, 2011) The annual celebration of National Nurses Week begins May 6 and runs through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Beckfield College nursing students are celebrating with a Hoxworth Blood Drive at the College’s Florence Campus at 16 Spiral Drive behind Sam’s Club on Monday, May 9, from 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. for scheduled appointments or drop in donors. The Hoxworth Bloodmobile will be in the parking lot.

From prostitutes, pimps, and pushers to drunks, wife beater, and killers “you’ve got to love the job,” emphasized Officer's Colleen Deegan and Rose Valentino of the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) and featured officers on TLC’s “Police Women of Cincinnati.” These cops turned TV network stars addressed a packed classroom of criminal justice students and faculty at Beckfield College in Northern Kentucky on February 28. With a Q&A format, both women shared a variety of stories helping these future criminal justice professionals understand the rewards, perils and challenges of the job. The field of criminal justice has grown in function and professionalism and Beckfield College has responded with rigorous academics, state-of-the-art equipment for training, and focus on the intangible elements of leadership, integrity and discipline. Major Jack Prindle, Boone County Sheriff, provided the keynote address emphasizing these very characteristics to the crowd of more than 150 people who attended the first Beckfield College Criminal Justice Awards Banquet at Summit Hills Country Club in Kentucky in late October.

School projects are a great learning experience, but an upcoming senior project from Beckfield College will help more than just a student’s grade. This project will help feed more than two dozen kids from Northern Kentucky for an entire year.
The Bengals Experience is a fundraiser coordinated by senior nursing students Kairi Byrd, Kim Schneider and Brittany Marshall in conjunction with Doug Pelfrey and the Harvest’s Edge Program, a division of the Kicks-for-Kids program. The Bengals Experience will take place at Thomas More College on October 19, 2010, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and offers unique hands-on sporting and educational experiences with members of the Cincinnati Bengals and BenGals.

100% of Beckfield College’s first Practical Nursing class passed the NCLEX-PN Licensure Examination upon first try. The Practical Nursing program launched in January of 2009, expanding the rigorous and demanding nursing educational offerings available a the College. The NCLEX-PN is a state required board examination from the Kentucky Board of Nursing to provide licensure upon graduation from an approved nursing college.

Beckfield College has opened their firearms training system to area police departments for advanced, time efficient training. The Criminal Justice program at the College has the latest Firearms Training System (FATS) which generates real life experiences through state-of-the-art virtual technology and provides the most advanced hands-on firearms training possible. Police departments, along with a Citizen’s Police Academy, have now trained on it successfully.
