Nursing Alumni Spotlight: Meet Kendra!

Kendra, Beckfield Graduate

Beckfield Graduate to Give you Answers – Meet Kendra!

Check out our latest Beckfield graduate, Nursing Alumni Spotlight, featuring Kendra! Find out what Kendra is up to working as a nurse at St. Elizabeth and the advice she gives for new nursing students and those studying to take the NCLEX!

Why did you choose the field of nursing?

I chose the field of nursing after getting a degree in a different field. Although, I wasn’t passionate about it. I’ve always had an interest in nursing but thought it would be too difficult. But, I realized that I was capable of doing it and found confidence in myself. I love being there for people in their time of need and this profession is very rewarding.

What is your favorite specialty?

My favorite specialty would be intensive care because you have to use critical thinking and I like a challenge. I also have an interest in gastroenterology and aesthetic nursing.

Why did you choose Beckfield College?

I chose Beckfield College because I wanted to get through school as quickly as possible. While also getting good clinical experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to work at St. Elizabeth while going through the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing – ADN program and coincidentally a lot of my clinicals were at St. E and I really enjoyed the hands-on experiences.

Advice to new students:

My advice to new students who want to succeed and become Beckfield graduate would be to have confidence in yourself and don’t give up because it’s hard. It’s nursing school, it’s not going to be easy. You are responsible for patients’ lives and getting to that point takes some hard work and dedication but it’s rewarding and well worth it.

Advice to students who are preparing for the NCLEX:

My advice for taking the NCLEX would be to take as many practice questions as possible and understand the rationale. I took the advice and helpful acronyms from my ATI coach and took practice exams from multiple platforms and that really helped me.

Tell us a little bit about your new position:

I accepted a job in the MICU at St. Elizabeth. I will be going through a residency program for six months with a preceptor to get specialized training which I’m very excited about.
